Derek Gombos is a 5th year student in Penn State University’s Architectural Engineering program. In May 2019, he will graduate with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree focusing on structural systems. Derek passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam in August 2018 and will gain EIT status after graduation from the program.

Over the past two summers, Derek worked as an intern for Keystone Structural Solutions, a structural consulting firm, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The small, but busy, office setting provided valuable experience participating in multiple stages of the design process from early concepts to submittal review.

In April 2018, Derek attended the NASCC Steel Conference in Baltimore, Maryland with a group of classmates. Most of his time was spent attending case studies reviewing unique structural designs for newly constructed buildings. Outside of class, he enjoys a variety of activities including reading, playing racquetball, and attending sporting events like hockey and racing.
